How to protect your MitID from IT crime
You prove your identity when you log in or approve with MitID. If others gain access to your MitID, they can impersonate you. Therefore, it is crucial that you never share your MitID or your MitID information with others. Your user ID and codes are private, and as long as they are secure, you are too.
Cybercriminals may try to lure your personal information from you by sending text messages or emails that appear to be from, for example, your bank or another trustworthy company or authority. They might also call you and pretend to be from, for instance, the MitID Support. Often, they will urge you to act quickly to prevent, for example, your MitID from being blocked or misused.
Although these requests may seem convincing, you should never share confidential information via email, text message or phone. No public authorities or legitimate private companies will unsolicitedly ask for your MitID information.
If you suspect that your MitID has been misused, you should contact the MitID Support as soon as possible to have it blocked. Contact the MitID Support at +45 33 98 00 10.
5 tips for protecting your MitID
- Never show or share your MitID codes with others.
- Never share your MitID app, code display, audio code reader or chip with others. The app can be shared with others in the household as long as each person has their own user ID and PIN code.
- Never share your user ID with others - except with the MitID Support if you contact them yourself.
- Never share MitID QR codes with others, either by sending screenshots or through screen sharing.
- Always read what you are about to approve with MitID. If the text does not match what you intend to do or if you did not initiate the action yourself, do not approve it.
