Get MitID again - with your passport/ID card

If you have lost your MitID, you can get it back by using your passport/international ID card and a phone that can scan your passport.

Have you lost your MitID app or e.g. code display, you need to block it. You must do this before you activate a new MitID app or order and activate a new code display.

If you do not have a phone that can scan your passport/ID card, could it be that you have a relative who has a phone that can? In this way, you can create your MitID and afterwards e.g. get the MitID app on your own phone. See how to do it

  • Possibly a P-code – which you need if you do not have a Danish CPR number. See here how to get a P-code You can use a P-code up to three times, so if you have received one before, you may be able to use it again.  

How to-guide

Scan your passport/ID card and face in the app 

  • Download and open the MitID app.
  • Press the menu in the top corner - press Activate and then Activate your MitID.
  • On the screen 'Activate your MitID' press Next
  • Choose Passport or ID card on the screen ‘How do you want to proceed’.
  • Follow the instructions to confirm your identity:
    • enter a P-code – if you do not have a Danish CPR number 
    • scan your passport/ID card in two ways and then scan your face to compare with your passport/ID card photo

Choose how to approve with MitID

When you get to the step where you must choose how to approve with MitID, you can choose: 

  • On this phone if you want to activate the MitID app on the phone that you just used to scan your passport with.
  • App on another phone/tablet if you want to activate a MitID app on another phone/tablet than the one you just used to scan your passport. For example, to get an extra MitID app in reserve
  • Code display, audio code reader, or chip if you want to order/activate a MitID code display, a MitID audio code reader or a MitID chip.

You can get MitID again at Citizen Service if you e.g.  

  • do not have a valid passport/ID card – and cannot get it 
  • and/or do not have access to a phone that can scan the passport/ID card

Have a spare MitID 

It is a good idea always to have a spare MitID. Then you can still use MitID if you e.g. should lose your phone with the MitID app.
