Change user ID

Should you suspect misuse that your MitID is abused, or if you just want a stronger user ID, you can change your user ID in the MitID app or on MitID.dk. If you need help in that proces, please contact MitID Support or book an appointment at Citizen Service.

  1. Open the MitID app and press the menu at the top of the screen
  2. Press Profile
  3. Press User ID
  4. Press Change your user ID, and press Next
  5. Select user (if more than one user is using the same app)
  6. Enter your present pin code (or use fingerprint/Touch ID/Face ID, if you use that). Press Next
  7. Enter your new user ID. Press Save
  8. The user ID is validated, and a message is shown if the user ID is not available and valid

  1. Log in to MitID.dk
  2. Select Edit user ID under 'User ID'
  3. Follow the guide to request editing rights for your information
  4. Wait 24 hours (you will be notified via sms or email, when you can edit your information)

  5. Log in to MitID.dk again
  6. Select Edit user ID under 'User ID'
  7. Enter your new user ID
  8. Select Validate to check if your user ID is available and valid
  9. Select Save changes

Your new user ID is now in place and you must use it the next time you log in or approve a transaction using MitID.

A strong user ID 

Identify a mixture of numbers, letters and special characters, which are difficult for others to guess but easy for you to remember:

Requirements of your new user ID 

  • Does not destiguish between upper and lower case
  • Must include 5–48 symbols
  • Can include: abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzæøå0123456789{}!#$ ^,*()_+-=:;?.@ og mellemrum 
(same symbol can be used several times) 
  • Cannot include your cpr number or any 10 digit code 
  • Cannot start or end with empty space

Do not share your user ID with anybody except if you contact your bank or the MitID Support for help. Remember that your user ID is not the same as your password.

If you need assistance changing your user ID on MitID.dk, you can contact MitID Support, who will guide you step by step through the process. If you are unable to log in to MitID.dk, you must visit Citizen Service and have them assist you with changing your user ID.

When you contact MitID Support to change your user ID, you must identify yourself by answering a number of questions.

Remember to request editing rights to your information using MitID.dk before you contact MitID Support. Due to security issues, it takes an hour from you request access until you get the right to edit your information. See the section above.
