Before you begin
- Make sure your old phone/tablet and the MitID app on it are updated.
- Next, download the MitID app from the Apple App Store or Google Play on the phone/tablet where you want the MitID app installed. You can have up to three active MitID apps at the same time.
- Make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on both phones/tablets. You can activate Bluetooth in your phone's/tablet's settings.
Copy your MitID app
- Open the MitID app on your old phone or tablet. Open the menu at the top of the screen.
- Press Activate.
- Press Copy your MitID to a new app.
- Read the information and press Next.
- Enter your PIN code or use biometric (fingerprint/Touch ID/Face ID).
- As a security measure, you need to wait for 1 hour before you can copy your MitID app. Check Yes, I want to copy and press Start copying.
- The waiting period has started. Press OK if you want to minimize the waiting window. You can close the MitID app while waiting. You'll receive a notification from the app when the waiting time is over.
- After 1 hour: Open the MitID app. Press Show QR code on the screen 'Show QR code and copy MitID to the new app'.
- Enter your PIN code.
- To ensure that you are the one scanning the QR code, MitID requires the use of Bluetooth. Read the information on the screen ‘Bluetooth access is required’/‘Bluetooth and location access is required’ and press Next.
- Accept that the MitID app uses Bluetooth - and for older versions of Android phones, also accept access to location.
- You'll now see a QR code that you need to scan with your new phone or tablet. The QR code is valid for 3 minutes.
- Open the MitID app on your new phone/tablet.
- Press Get started on the screen 'Activate your MitID'.
- Choose Copy from another MitID app. Press Next.
- Mark QR code is shown on the old app and press Scan QR code.
- Press Next on the screen ‘Bluetooth access is required’/‘Bluetooth and location access is required’.
- Accept that the MitID app uses Bluetooth - and for older versions of Android phones, also accept access to location.
- Scan the QR code by holding your phone/tablet up to the QR code on your old app. Hold the screen towards yourself so that the MitID app uses your phone's/tablet's camera to scan the QR code.
- Enter your user ID to confirm your identity. Press Next.
- Enter a temporary PIN code that you receive via SMS.
- Press Next on the screen 'Choose your personal PIN code'.
- Create your personal PIN code. Press Next. Repeat the PIN code and press Next.
- Choose whether you want to approve with biometric (fingerprint/Touch ID/Face ID).
- Accept notifications from the MitID app.
- This app is now activated and ready to use. Press OK.
Your MitID app on your old phone/tablet is still active. If you no longer want to use it, you can delete it or keep it as a backup for your new MitID app, ensuring you always have access to MitID.
