Copy your MitID app to another phone/tablet

If you want to copy your MitID app to another phone or tablet, you can do so by scanning a QR code from your existing MitID app. With this feature in the MitID app, you can easily and quickly activate a new MitID app, for example, if you get a new phone or tablet.

Before you begin

  • Make sure your old phone/tablet and the MitID app on it are updated.
  • Next, download the MitID app from the Apple App Store or Google Play on the phone/tablet where you want the MitID app installed. You can have up to three active MitID apps at the same time.
  • Make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on both phones/tablets. You can activate Bluetooth in your phone's/tablet's settings.

Copy your MitID app

  1. Open the MitID app on your old phone or tablet. Open the menu at the top of the screen.
  2. Press Activate.
  3. Press Copy your MitID to a new app.
  4. Read the information and press Next.
  5. Enter your PIN code or use biometric (fingerprint/Touch ID/Face ID).
  6. As a security measure, you need to wait for 1 hour before you can copy your MitID app. Check Yes, I want to copy and press Start copying.
  7. The waiting period has started. Press OK if you want to minimize the waiting window. You can close the MitID app while waiting. You'll receive a notification from the app when the waiting time is over.
  8. After 1 hour: Open the MitID app. Press Show QR code on the screen 'Show QR code and copy MitID to the new app'.
  9. Enter your PIN code.
  10. To ensure that you are the one scanning the QR code, MitID requires the use of Bluetooth. Read the information on the screen ‘Bluetooth access is required’/‘Bluetooth and location access is required’ and press Next.
  11. Accept that the MitID app uses Bluetooth - and for older versions of Android phones, also accept access to location.
  12. You'll now see a QR code that you need to scan with your new phone or tablet. The QR code is valid for 3 minutes.

  13. Open the MitID app on your new phone/tablet.
  14. Press Get started on the screen 'Activate your MitID'.
  15. Choose Copy from another MitID app. Press Next.
  16. Mark QR code is shown on the old app and press Scan QR code.
  17. Press Next on the screen ‘Bluetooth access is required’/‘Bluetooth and location access is required’.
  18. Accept that the MitID app uses Bluetooth - and for older versions of Android phones, also accept access to location.
  19. Scan the QR code by holding your phone/tablet up to the QR code on your old app. Hold the screen towards yourself so that the MitID app uses your phone's/tablet's camera to scan the QR code.
  20. Enter your user ID to confirm your identity. Press Next.
  21. Enter a temporary PIN code that you receive via SMS.
  22. Press Next on the screen 'Choose your personal PIN code'.
  23. Create your personal PIN code. Press Next. Repeat the PIN code and press Next.
  24. Choose whether you want to approve with biometric (fingerprint/Touch ID/Face ID).
  25. Accept notifications from the MitID app.
  26. This app is now activated and ready to use. Press OK.

Your MitID app on your old phone/tablet is still active. If you no longer want to use it, you can delete it or keep it as a backup for your new MitID app, ensuring you always have access to MitID.
