QR codes are machine-generated codes with information that your phone can read. When you scan a QR code during an approval, it helps ensure that you are the person at the screen where the approval happens. This helps make MitID more secure for you.
When you must scan a QR code, you need to use your MitID app.
If you use a computer and need to approve with the MitID app, you must first log on to the page on the computer that you wish to access – e.g., borger.dk or your online bank.

If you use a tablet and need to approve with the MitID app, you must first log on to the page on the tablet that you wish to access – e.g., borger.dk or your online bank.

If you can see the QR code, but not scan it with the MitID app, you can try the following:
If you cannot see a QR code, it might be because the page you are trying to log on to has been reloaded. If this is the case, cancel the approval in your app, and try again.
One-time passcodes are an alternative to QR codes, which also helps ensure that it is you at the screen where the log on is attempted. We recommend that you use QR codes, if possible, when you approve with MitID.
If you have a visual or motor impairment, or if the camera on your phone is broken, there is an alternative: using one-time passcodes. Entering one-time passcodes also help increase your security, since – in order to approve with MitID – you need to enter a one-time passcode that shows up on the screen where you are sitting. The one-time passcode is four digits that will be shown on the screen where you are logging on.
There are two ways to change to approving with one-time passcodes in the MitID app.
Be aware that there will be a 24 hours waiting period in both cases. This is because you are changing a personal setting for the app, which takes 24 hours to change for security reasons.
You can also change to using one-time passcodes while you are using the app and see the screen “New way to approve in the MitID app”.
Now follow steps 5-8 in the above guide.
You can change back to using QR codes in the same way: by entering the MitID app menu. This change does not require you to wait 24 hours to complete it.
